La Jolla Playhouse presents
Counterweight: An Elevator Love Play
October
By Jennifer Barclay
Directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg
A MOXIE Theatre production presented by La Jolla Playhouse
5 person capacity
Run Time: 20 minutes
Take a ride on Betty Jean’s elevator, where she’ll offer up voyeuristic peeks into three couples’ stories across three different floors. Lennox and Gracie are packing for their post-retirement dream trip, Liv and Teresa are in the midst of a role-play gone sour, and Ed and Coco are teenagers on a midnight rendezvous in their school’s boiler room. Counterweight is a fun, intimate examination of love through the prism of closing doors and constant motion.
Patron Note
Recommended for ages 16+. Contains some strong language. This performance takes place in a working elevator. You may be standing during performance, seating not guaranteed. Not recommended for patrons uncomfortable in enclosed spaces.
Walking Travel Time from Festival Village: Less than 1 minute
Due to the nature of live performance, run times may be over or under the estimated time provided. It is recommended to allow 30 minutes between performances.
