The Season
Home The Season Page-to-Stage

Page-to-Stage is La Jolla Playhouse's signature new play development program in which audiences experience the "birth" of a play. Throughout the rehearsal and run of the show, the playwright and director make constant changes in response to audience reactions and feedback.

Encompassing commissions, readings, workshops and workshop productions, Page-to-Stage serves the specific needs of a project at all stages in its evolution, helping artists take their work to the next level of development.

As La Jolla Playhouse continues to cultivate new plays through this dynamic, audience-inclusive development process, we hope you'll join us for more thrilling journeys in seasons to come.

A Page-to-Stage Workshop Production

John Leguizamo: Latin History for Morons

April 5 – 17, 2016

Mandell Weiss Theatre

Created and Performed by John Leguizamo
Directed by Tony Taccone

Class is in session with John Leguizamo’s new one-man show, Latin History for Morons. John delivers rapid-fire laughs in his biting and comic take on 500 years of Latin History spanning the Aztec and Incan Empires to World War II. Tackling the contributions of Latin people left out of the history books, John is the most uproariously real teacher you’ve ever had. Returning to the Playhouse with this new workshop, John shares his hilarious and satirical version of an often-overlooked part of history.

Emmy Award winner John Leguizamo’s career spans the genres of film, theatre, television, literature and beyond. He created the award-winning one-man show Ghetto Klown, which was developed at the Playhouse in 2010 and went on to a successful Broadway run. Director Tony Taccone is Artistic Director of the Tony Award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theatre which has presented more than 70 premieres and sent 23 shows to New York.
