Kelly AuCoin and Daniel Pearce in Blood and Gifts

  1. Another winner from La Jolla Playhouse in the current production of “Blood and Gifts.” It was all about the acting in this tightly crafted ideological drama. Daniel Pearce as Simon Craig deftly hammered away at the ironies of foreign bungling among the Pashtuns; I loved his “How obvious does it have to become?” theatrics. After other winning portrayals by Triney Sandoval, Kelly AuCoin and Demosthenes Chrysan, there appeared to be much non-partisan knocking of heads against the walls of the exits by theatre-goers after the performance, with the now-rhetorical question, What the heck were we or the Soviets or anyone else thinking by getting involved with Afghanistan?
