UC San Diego presents
Our Star Will Die Alone
October
By Project Planetaria (Adam Burgasser, Tara Knight, Michael Trigilio)
50 person capacity
Run Time: 45 minutes
What does it mean to live the life of a star? Our Star Will Die Alone will explore this question with a participatory, site-specific performance that follows the lifecycle of our star. Integrating data-driven elements rooted in our scientific understanding of stellar astrophysics, audience members will be given custom electronics to explore fusion, the power source of our star. Through sound, light, projection, and a death metal band, this performance will articulate the productive and destructive aspects of stellar evolution.

Creative Team
Project Planetaria is a collaboration of UCSD faculty and graduate students from the Departments of Physics, Theatre & Dance and Visual Arts. Founded in December 2011 by Adam Burgasser, Tara Knight and Michael Trigilio, the collective investigates ways of exploring astronomical phenomena and information outside traditional modes, by engaging multiple senses, embodying experience, exploring social analogs, breaking down time and space barriers, and incorporating participatory behaviors. Data-driven performance, trans sensory transformation, architectural mapping, and metaphor are all tools we are using to better understand the Universe and our place within it. Blog
