It’s the year 2045 in a huge, run-down metropolis called Aztlan City (formerly San Diego), where political apathy and corruption run the city while violent barrio families run the streets. Written in Calo, a unique poetic cadence that mixes urban Spanish and English slang, and performed outdoors in an urban street environment – this world premiere adaptation is Shakespeare for the 21st Century.

El Henry is a Without Walls production produced in association with San Diego Repertory Theatre. All performances take place at SILO in Maker’s Quarter, East Village San Diego.

This gripping story of loyalty, family and revenge soars on an original score, sharp direction from A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff (Arcadia, Phèdre) and features the inimitable stage and TV star BD Wong (M. Butterfly, Law & Order: SVU).

Loosely based on the true story of a NASA astronaut, this is one family’s story of determination and destiny and a boy who set out to achieve the impossible.

The DNA New Work Series is a two-week period of workshops and readings of new works that allows playwrights and directors the opportunity to develop a script by providing rehearsal time, space and resources – all culminating in workshops or readings open to the public. All projects in the DNA New Work Series take place with little or no scenic, costume or staging elements, and actors may have scripts in hand. It's a rare chance for theatre-lovers to be a part of a new work in its earliest stages of development.

Loosely translated as “Cock-a-doodle-doo Box: A History of Clowns,” Kikiricaja: Una Historia de Payasos is a three-person play, performed entirely in Spanish, that tells the story of friends Bartolomeus and Comino, who live in beautiful wooden boxes where they dream, eat, play and invent worlds. Full of moments of happiness and sadness, fights and reconciliations, travel and adventure, this delightful piece shows how friendships can help us face the fears that make us feel small, as well as celebrate the hopes that make us feel like giants.

Recommended for ages 7+. This piece is performed entirely in Spanish. Fluency in Spanish is not required.

The latest presentation in the acclaimed Without Walls (WoW) series, THE GRIFT at the Lafayette Hotel is a world-premiere, immersive theatre piece which takes audiences on a participatory journey through the extraordinary rooms and spaces of this expansive, 1940s-era landmark. They are introduced to Ben, who, under mysterious circumstances, lived his entire life at the hotel. Having found an unlikely mentor in a traveling con-man who was a frequent guest at the hotel, Ben’s last wish is to enlist the audience’s help to execute one final, giant swindle. Like the three-time-extended ACCOMPLICE: San Diego, this thrilling new show is part game, part drama as patrons learn the art of the con in a unique immersive theatrical experience.
