Diversionary Theatre, in association with La Jolla Playhouse, will present a reading of Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays. Directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, the reading is intended to raise awareness and vital funds in support of marriage equality. The event features a series of short plays by such celebrated writers as Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright, Moises Kaufman and Neil LaBute, offering compelling and often hilarious perspectives on the state of gay marriage in our country. Proceeds from the performance will benefit The San Diego LGBT Center’s Marriage Equality Program.

As Artistic Director of La Jolla Playhouse, Mr. Ashley helmed the A Dram of Drummhicit, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Restoration and the acclaimed musicals Xanadu and Memphis. The latter recently transferred to Broadway, earning four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as a Best Director nomination for Ashley. Additional Broadway credits include Xanadu, All Shook Up and The Rocky Horror Show (Tony nomination).
