Rise Up to Preserve Penny for the Arts

Please Tell The City Of San Diego To Restore Arts Funding!

La Jolla Playhouse is proud to be a part of a local arts community that is passionate, bipartisan and civically engaged. San Diego arts organizations have just received devastating news – the first draft of the City of San Diego budget includes cuts to arts and culture funding by $4.7 million – more than 31% of the current funding level.

While the coming year is a tight budget year for the City, the arts have been unfairly targeted for cuts (the arts currently only represent 0.4% of the overall budget, but are being recommended to bear 6% of the City’s budget cuts).

Over 100 nonprofit arts and culture organizations large and small rely on city funding to serve the community through educational and artistic programming. These organizations – including La Jolla Playhouse – need YOUR help. There is still time to influence the Mayor and the City Councilmembers before the budget is finalized.

This is where YOU come in!

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
  • Contact Mayor Faulconer and your Councilmember by Friday, June 2. Encourage them to bring equity to the budget process and continue to support arts and culture (Emails and phone numbers below).
  • Join us at the Council Budget Meeting on Monday, June 5 at 2:00 pm. Council members will make their final vote on FY 2018 budget modifications (202 C Street, 12th Floor, San Diego, CA 92101).
  • Share this message with local friends and family who are similarly passionate about arts and culture.

Together, we WILL make a difference!
