Both productions close on Sunday, September 1, so if you’ve been thinking about buying tickets for these laugh-out-loud summer hits, now’s the time to go for it! There are still a few seats left for Saturday (August 31) and Sunday (September 1) performances!

Speaking of WoW, the Playhouse is also looking for volunteers! The Playhouse’s 2013/2014 Resident Theatre Company Teatro Máscara Mágica‘s production of Josefina Lopez‘s Detained in the Desert shines a spotlight on issues of identity, the power of the media and human rights. The work is “of the moment, for the moment,” says the group’s Artistic Director Bill Virchis, and opened on Thursday, August 29 at the Theodore and Adele Shank Theatre. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famed “I Have a Dream” speech, the Playhouse hosted  a developmental reading on Wednesday, August 28 of Michael Benjamin Washington’s play, Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin. It was directed by Tony Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashād. For more info, click here.

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Hands on a Hardbody is now available in stores and online outlets! The Playhouse-born show  was nominated for three 2013 Tony Awards, including “Best Original Score,” written by Amanda Green and Phish frontman Trey Anastasio, and nine 2013 Drama Desk Awards, including “Outstanding Musical,” “Outstanding Music” and “Outstanding Lyrics.” The album features blues, folk, gospel, R&B music and a bonus track, “The Tryers,” which was cut from the show.
